Gateway Project – A Community Divided

The City of Pinole is proposing a new development project on Pinole Valley Road, west of 80. The Public Hearing is scheduled for Monday April 6, 2015.

The project is causing some citizens to raise their voices in protest about the possibility of gridlock, congestion, safety and the effect that yet another Starbuck’s will have on the small business community in Old Town.

The Planning Commission will meet on Monday April 6 at 7 Pm, at City Hall, to discuss this proposed project.
If you are interested in weighing in on this project, then now is the time to have your voice heard.
This sign was placed on a resident’s property on Pinole Valley Road, and the opposition to this development seems to be picking up steam and supporters.

  1. Locating a Drive-Thru Starbucks in front of Kaiser’s Medical Office Building is an invitation to further gridlock on Pinole Valley Road. The number of vehicles and the circulation pattern around Starbucks, coupled with a narrow short entrance to the main Kaiser parking lot, promise nothing less than a traffic nightmare. Starbucks needs to be dropped, or relocated across to the Sprouts parking lot on the West side. It is smarter to mitigate the problems NOW, not AFTER.
